Anyone who is a motorsport enthusiast will have heard of the legendary duel between Ford and Ferrari that took place in 1966 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
It came down to a photo finish. In the end, Bruce McLaren’s Ford GT40 MK2 narrowly won ahead of Ken Miles’ GT40. The winning car from the 24-hour race, driven by McLaren, had the chassis number GT40P1046. In 1967, this car was involved in an accident during a test race in Daytona. As a result, the car was used as a donor vehicle and only the chassis remained. The chassis was subsequently sold several times in America before disappearing into a collection in Belgium in 1980. This chassis was acquired in Belgium in 2000. The current owner used it as a basis to build a 1:1 replica of Bruce McLaren’s car over a period of 10 years, with great attention to detail. Here you can see the final result. In the end, the owner even managed to obtain a road license for this car by means of individual approval, so that the car has a valid MOT and is registered.
