THE FINAL AFTER MORE THAN A YEAR<\/strong><\/p>\n Over the course of more than 14 months, a white Porsche 964 Carrera 2 was completely rebuilt.<\/p>\n This was never just a simple partial restoration. The Porsche was completely disassembled, inspected, overhauled, and then reassembled from the ground up. Virtually every screw, gasket, and washer was handled during the project. The vehicle was completely disassembled, underwent a technical inspection, had its bodywork refurbished, and was then rebuilt from the ground up.<\/p>\n Virtually every screw, gasket, and washer was inspected, refurbished, or replaced during the course of the project.<\/p>\n The original vehicle has thus been transformed into a Porsche that retains its classic identity while being further developed in virtually every technical area.<\/p>\n The project vehicle now has its own name: Jorge<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The story behind the name dates back to the purchase of the original vehicle in Spain. A Spanish flag was found in the car at the time, and this led to the creation of an internal name during the project\u2014a name that has ultimately stuck.<\/p>\n Today, Jorge bears little resemblance to the driver he was back then.<\/p>\n The Porsche 964, which was originally white, has been completely rebuilt as a green Carrera 2.<\/p>\n The goal for the entire rebuild was clear:<\/p>\n New or better.<\/strong><\/p>\n The goal was not simply to replace every traditional component with modern technology.<\/p>\n Rather, each component was evaluated to determine whether it should be retained, revised, or further developed in a technically sound manner.<\/p>\n The result is a vehicle that preserves classic Porsche characteristics while also benefiting from technical solutions that were not yet available when it was first registered.<\/p>\n The final design was deliberately not intended to be an uncompromising Porsche 964 RS.<\/p>\n The driver remains the focus, but at the same time, the vehicle should remain practical for use in normal traffic conditions.<\/p>\n That is precisely what inspired the goal of building a classic Porsche that offers an engaging and responsive driving experience, yet remains comfortable enough for city driving, long-distance trips, and everyday use when needed.<\/p>\n The vehicle should not only look good, but also be practical enough to drive regularly.<\/p>\n The original 3.6-liter engine was completely overhauled and technically upgraded.<\/p>\n The cylinder heads were machined, larger valves were installed, and different camshafts were fitted.<\/p>\n In addition, the electronic voting system was modified.<\/p>\n The result is about 300 PS<\/strong>.<\/p>\n This gives the Porsche significantly more power than in its stock configuration, without completely altering the engine’s character.<\/p>\n When it came to the flywheel, too, the team deliberately sought a solution that struck a balance between comfort and sportiness.<\/p>\n While a particularly lightweight single-mass flywheel would provide very direct responsiveness, it can be significantly less comfortable in city traffic.<\/p>\n That is why an interim solution with a higher mass is being used.<\/p>\n It combines sportier engine performance with significantly smoother acceleration.<\/p>\n The approximately 300 PS must also be reliably transferred to the road.<\/p>\n To compensate, the classic five-speed transmission is equipped with a 40 percent lock<\/strong>.<\/p>\n It improves power delivery to both rear wheels and provides greater traction, especially during dynamic driving.<\/p>\n A shorter shift travel complements the drivetrain and enables quicker and more precise gear changes.<\/p>\n For the suspension, we’re sticking with the KW V3 with hydraulic HLS that was already set up in the previous parts of the project.<\/p>\n Compression and rebound can be adjusted individually, allowing the suspension to be tuned for both road driving and sporty driving.<\/p>\n The hydraulic lift system also makes it possible to raise the vehicle by several centimeters when necessary.<\/p>\n This feature is a key component of the overall concept, particularly for steep access roads, ramps, and the planned use in Tyrol.<\/p>\n The interior has also been completely redesigned.<\/p>\n The upper section remains classic black, while the lower section is finished in bottle green.<\/p>\n A diamond-stitch pattern complements the custom leatherwork.<\/p>\n In addition, there is a green looped carpet, whose design is inspired by classic Porsche models.<\/p>\n The same carpet is also used in the trunk, so that the interior and the front of the car form a visual whole.<\/p>\n The Recaro Pole Position seats, already familiar from previous phases of the project, were also custom-upholstered.<\/p>\n The backrests echo the car’s exterior color, thereby tying the exterior color to the interior design.<\/p>\n Other details are also modeled after the Porsche 964 RS.<\/p>\n The rear bench seat has been removed, and slimmed-down door panels replace the standard ones, giving the entire interior a much sportier and more driver-oriented look.<\/p>\n Not every detail comes directly from the Porsche 964.<\/p>\n Instead, elements from different eras and models of the brand were deliberately incorporated.<\/p>\n One example is the wooden gearshift knob, whose design is inspired by historic Porsche race cars.<\/p>\n It is precisely these details that are intended to give the vehicle a unique look without losing sight of its origins.<\/p>\n The increased engine power is complemented by a correspondingly larger braking system.<\/p>\n The system uses components from Porsche’s lineup, which provide significantly greater braking performance than the original factory system.<\/p>\n Thus, the brake also follows the same basic concept as the rest of the redesign:<\/p>\n Technology is improved in The customer\u2019s specification for the complete rebuild was: \u201cas good as new\u2014or better.\u201d The result should be neither over-the-top nor too understated, but rather remain classic while still making it clear that this is a special vehicle.<\/p>\n 01:00<\/p>\n Benjamin David looks back on the project. The foundation is a Porsche 964 Carrera 2, which was originally found in Spain and was named Jorge during the project.<\/p>\n 02:00<\/p>\n The vehicle, which was originally white, has been completely rebuilt and now features a green finish. Every screw, gasket, and washer was inspected, refurbished, or replaced during the restoration.<\/p>\n 02:30<\/p>\n In various areas, solutions are being implemented that did not yet exist during the vehicle’s original production. The tires, braking system, suspension, engine performance, and interior are being further developed without losing the classic character of the Porsche.<\/p>\n 03:00<\/p>\n The restoration was the result of collaboration among various specialists. Painters, upholsterers, and the team at DAVID ATELIER worked together to achieve a harmonious final result.<\/p>\n 03:30<\/p>\n The concept is designed to deliberately preserve a pure driving experience. While modern vehicles can handle many tasks automatically, the Porsche 964 is intended to maintain a direct connection between the driver and the vehicle.<\/p>\n 04:05<\/p>\n The existing vehicle concept is being specifically improved. Jorge is designed to be practical for everyday use while also delivering performance when the driver calls for it.<\/p>\n 06:50<\/p>\n Project Manager Olaf Bornh\u00f6ft explains the technical work. The vehicle was completely disassembled, every component was inspected, and the body and underbody were thoroughly refurbished.<\/p>\n 08:00<\/p>\n The engine has been completely overhauled. Redesigned cylinder heads, larger valves, and different camshafts, along with other modifications, deliver more power.<\/p>\n 8:30 a.m.<\/p>\n For the flywheel, a solution was deliberately chosen that offers a sportier performance than the production model, while at the same time enabling smoother acceleration in city traffic.<\/p>\n 09:10<\/p>\n With electronic tuning, the engine delivers approximately 300 PS. A 40 percent lock in the five-speed transmission improves traction, while a shorter shift travel ensures faster and more precise gear changes.<\/p>\n 09:40<\/p>\n The finished vehicle is intended to offer a sporty and responsive driving experience, while remaining more practical for everyday use than a Porsche 964 RS designed without compromise.<\/p>\n 10:00<\/p>\n The KW V3 can be adjusted for compression and rebound. The hydraulic HLS also allows the vehicle to be raised by several centimeters when necessary, making it easier to navigate steep driveways and ramps.<\/p>\n 10:45<\/p>\n The interior combines a black dashboard with bottle-green accents and diamond stitching. Green looped carpet is used both in the cabin and in the trunk.<\/p>\n 11:35<\/p>\n Recaro Pole Position seats with custom-designed backrests, the removal of the rear bench seat, and streamlined door panels are partly inspired by the Porsche 964 RS.<\/p>\n 12:10<\/p>\n Individual design elements draw inspiration from various Porsche models and eras. The result is a unique interior that nevertheless remains clearly associated with the brand.<\/p>\n 12:30<\/p>\n To accommodate the increased engine power, the braking system has been upgraded. Most of the components used are sourced from Porsche’s existing lineup.<\/p>\n 13:00<\/p>\n The car should be neither overly flashy nor too understated. Subtle RS features and other technical enhancements can be found throughout, without fundamentally altering the classic appearance of the Porsche 964.<\/p>\n 13:35<\/p>\n The lighting retains its classic look but is powered by modern LED technology. This improves driving safety without making the vehicle look too modern.<\/p>\n 1:50 p.m.<\/p>\n The concept remains deliberately balanced when it comes to wheels and tires as well. Classic BBS Le Mans wheels are paired with modern Michelin Pilot Sport tires, combining traditional design with contemporary grip.<\/p>\n 14:15<\/p>\n After more than 14 months, Jorge is finished.
