THE START OF A SPECIAL CUSTOMER PROJECT<\/strong><\/p>\n This Porsche 964 is being restored and technically upgraded step by step on behalf of a customer. The interior has also been largely dismantled to give the body shop full access to the relevant areas.<\/p>\n Corrosion<\/strong> has already been detected just below the front fenders, in a location typical for these vehicles<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Complete disassembly therefore serves not only the restoration itself, but above all to provide as accurate an assessment of the condition as possible.<\/p>\n At the customer’s request, the underbody was cleaned with dry ice.<\/p>\n This process removes road grime, grease, brake dust, underbody wax, and deposits, while preserving the original body sealant and protective coatings that are firmly bonded to the sheet metal.<\/p>\n The result isn’t just visually impressive. It’s only after cleaning that the actual condition of many components can be reliably assessed.<\/p>\n In the video, ice blasting is therefore aptly described as a kind of \u201clie detector<\/strong> \u201d: Defective bearings, corrosion, and other weak spots can no longer be hidden beneath decades-old grime.<\/p>\n The work isn\u2019t finished after ice blasting.<\/p>\n Brackets, electrical wiring, fuel lines, and other components on the underbody are removed. This allows damaged areas to be professionally repaired and then repainted or touched up in the appropriate color.<\/p>\n At the same time, every removed component is inspected. Components that are no longer in good condition are replaced or overhauled immediately.<\/p>\n This is precisely where the advantage of a comprehensive restoration becomes apparent: Not only are visible areas refurbished\u2014the underlying mechanics are also systematically inspected.<\/p>\n A key component of the project is the engine.<\/p>\n The Porsche 964 comes standard with a 3.6-liter engine producing 250 PS. As part of the overhaul ,<\/strong> the displacement will be increased to 3.8 liters<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The target output is around 300 PS<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The goal here is explicitly not to build the most extreme engine possible. Rather, the goal is:<\/p>\n This means the powertrain also fits the overall character of the vehicle.<\/p>\n The standard suspension is replaced by a KW V3 with a hydraulic lift system<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The HLS allows the front axle, in particular, to be raised as needed. This is helpful, for example, when entering underground parking garages, navigating speed bumps, or driving up steep ramps.<\/p>\n Especially in a Porsche with a lower ride height, the system combines sporty suspension technology with significantly greater practicality for everyday use.<\/p>\n Before the vehicle is painted, the necessary lines and mounting points for the system are already prepared.<\/p>\n An important part of bodywork is removing existing corrosion.<\/p>\n On the project car, rust was discovered particularly under the front fenders. Water, dirt, and moisture can penetrate there over the years and accumulate between the components.<\/p>\n The fact that Porsche galvanized its bodies early on does not mean, therefore, that classic 911s are inherently protected from corrosion.<\/p>\n Stone chips, clogged drains, friction between components, and persistent moisture can compromise the protective effect over the course of decades.<\/p>\n Once the bodywork is complete, the Porsche 964 is fully painted in Oak Green Metallic<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The classic Porsche color was chosen at the customer\u2019s request and, together with the gold BBS Le Mans wheels, would later become an essential part of the vehicle\u2019s design concept.<\/p>\n However, there is still more work to be done before painting: the side panels must be repaired, the corrosion in the front end must be removed, and the frame must be measured.<\/p>\n Only then will the final paint application begin.<\/p>\n Inside, too, the Porsche 964 is being thoroughly tailored to its future purpose.<\/p>\n The rear bench seat is removed and replaced with RS carpet<\/strong>. Recaro Pole Position seats<\/strong> are planned for the driver and front passenger. A concave Momo steering wheel<\/strong> is also included.<\/p>\n The vehicle also offers a unique starting point right from the factory:<\/p>\n It does not have a sunroof.<\/strong><\/p>\n This eliminates additional weight at the highest point of the body. At the same time, it provides more headroom and reduces potential sources of noise or wear.<\/p>\n This makes a body without a sunroof particularly appealing, especially for sporty classic Porsches.<\/p>\n The wheel design remains deliberately classic.<\/p>\n The Porsche 964 is fitted with BBS Le Mans wheels featuring a gold star<\/strong>. Paired with Oak Green Metallic, this creates a very traditional combination that underscores the car\u2019s sporty character without making the design appear unnecessarily modern.<\/p>\n The vehicle\u2019s future intended use has also already been determined.<\/p>\n The owner plans to take the Porsche to Italy once it\u2019s finished and drive it there. The video specifically mentions the Dolomites as ideal terrain for the vehicle.<\/p>\n This aligns perfectly with the project\u2019s focus: not purely a collector\u2019s car and not an extreme performance project, but a classic Porsche meant to be driven<\/strong>.<\/p>\n With a 3.8-liter engine, around 300 PS, a modern suspension, and a minimalist interior, the result is a complete package The vehicle is already in the midst of being disassembled. The trunk lid, engine, and transmission have been removed; the windows and doors are being taken out; and the interior has also been largely exposed.<\/p>\n 00:22<\/p>\n The engine and transmission are undergoing a comprehensive overhaul. At the same time, a performance upgrade is planned. The axles are also being completely overhauled, and the stock suspension is being replaced with a KW V3 featuring a hydraulic HLS lift system<\/strong>.<\/p>\n 00:46<\/p>\n The windows, doors, and interior have already been largely dismantled to give the body shop access to all relevant areas. After removing the front fenders, corrosion is already visible in a spot typical of the Porsche 964.<\/p>\n 01:25<\/p>\n At the customer\u2019s request, the underbody was cleaned with dry ice. This process removes road grime, grease, brake dust, and other deposits while preserving the original body sealant.<\/p>\n Only then can the actual condition of the underbody and the installed components be reliably assessed.<\/p>\n 02:30<\/p>\n Brackets, electrical wiring, fuel lines, and other components are removed. This allows damaged areas on the underbody to be repaired and then properly repainted or touched up.<\/p>\n All removed components are inspected at the same time for wear and defects.<\/p>\n 03:15<\/p>\n The vehicle undergoes a comprehensive restoration, and existing rust spots are removed. The Porsche 964 is then repainted in Oak Green Metallic<\/strong>, a classic Porsche color chosen by the customer.<\/p>\n 03:40<\/p>\n The vehicle is equipped with a KW V3 with HLS. The hydraulic system allows the front axle, in particular, to be raised as needed. This makes it easier to navigate underground parking garages, ramps, or speed bumps despite the vehicle\u2019s sporty ride height.<\/p>\n 04:15<\/p>\n After nearly three decades, dirt, wax, and deposits accumulate underneath a vehicle. Ice blasting removes these layers and reveals the actual condition of the vehicle.<\/p>\n Worn suspension components can also be identified much more easily afterward.<\/p>\n 05:35<\/p>\n The standard 3.6-liter engine with 250 PS will be completely overhauled and its displacement<\/strong> increased to 3.8 liters<\/strong>. The target output is approximately 300 PS<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The key factors here are not maximum power figures, but rather reliability, good drivability, and suitability for everyday use.<\/p>\n 06:25<\/p>\n The front fenders were removed, among other things, to inspect the underlying body panels. Moisture and dirt can accumulate here and cause corrosion over decades.<\/p>\n Even a galvanized Porsche body is therefore not inherently protected against rust.<\/p>\n 07:35<\/p>\n The Porsche is first taken to the body shop. The side panels are repaired, any corrosion is removed, and the frame is measured.<\/p>\n The vehicle then returns to DAVID ATELIER, where, among other things, the HLS system is adjusted before the final paint job is applied.<\/p>\n 8:45 a.m.<\/p>\n The interior is also undergoing extensive modifications. The plan includes RS carpet, Recaro Pole Position seats, and a concave Momo steering wheel<\/strong>. The rear bench seat will be completely removed.<\/p>\n 9:15 a.m.<\/p>\n This project car does not have a sunroof. This eliminates additional weight at the highest point of the vehicle while also providing more headroom in the cabin.<\/p>\n A body without a sunroof is therefore particularly appealing, especially for sports-oriented vehicles.<\/p>\n 10:25<\/p>\n Classic BBS Le Mans<\/strong> wheels with a gold star<\/strong> are planned for this car. Combined with Oak Green Metallic, this creates a contemporary, sporty overall look.<\/p>\n 10:45<\/p>\n Once completed, the owner plans to take the car to Italy. Designed specifically for winding roads and the Dolomites, the concept\u2014featuring around 300 PS, a modern suspension, and a minimalist interior\u2014is intended to deliver a harmonious driving experience.<\/p>\n 11:05<\/p>\n The initial assessment and disassembly are just the beginning.
